Woking Library to be revamped
Earlier today, Lib Dem Councillor Will Forster was pleased to hear about Surrey County Council's plans to refurbish Woking's library.
Woking is one of several libraries that will benefit from improvements to be funded by a total of £15.3 million capital investment, following today's County Council Cabinet meeting.
The proposal is that Woking library will retain its central location but will be subject to a programme of refurbishment to upgrade the site's facilities. Plans include:
- Net Carbon Zero building improvements such as LED lighting, and a Heat Pump System for heating and cooling,
- Flexible meeting rooms and quiet study spaces with a range of enhanced digital equipment,
- Open Access' electronic entry system to allow for use outside of normal opening hours.
Lib Dem County Councillor for Woking South, Will Forster, said:
"I welcome these planned improvements to Woking's library. Of course, lending books will still be central to what the library has to offer, and its stock will remain at the same level. But this upgrade will allow the library to broaden its activities and the plan is that it will develop into a hub for the wider community, providing modern facilities for families, local businesses, and voluntary groups who do vital work in supporting our residents."
