- opposed bus cuts and sought a review of transport provision which led to the proposal to set up a transport co-ordination centre.
- campaigned to retain the right to free school transport, under threat by the Government.
- successfully arranged local funding of activities and improved facilities for young people.
- pressed for a waste policy with strong action on waste reduction and recycling.
- pressed for the introduction of invest-to-save initiatives such as increasing allowances for foster parents to reduce high spending on out of County placements and a scheme to help key Council employees to buy their own homes.
- successfully shamed the Conservative administration into increasing funding to improve disabled access to County Council buildings.
- requested an increased role for Local Committees to allow more decisions to be made locally.
