Surrey Lib Dems celebrate big wins in County Council elections
The Lib Dems gained 5 seats on Surrey County Council in the elections held on Thursday 6th May, resulting in the largest Lib Dem Group at County Hall since 1997.
After gaining 5 seats, the Lib Dems now have 14 County Councillors in Surrey. Although the Conservatives still control Surrey County Council, they have a reduced majority, notably down from before the election.
The election results for the Lib Dems in Surrey could have been even better, the party narrowly missed out on winning a further 5 seats by 173 votes or less. There are now 5 Lib Dem County Councillors from Guildford, 4 from Waverley, 2 from Mole Valley, 2 from Woking and 1 from Tandridge.
There is now a much stronger opposition on the County Council and the Lib Dem Group is determined to play its part in holding the ruling Conservatives to account and delivering the change local residents in Surrey have so clearly demanded.
