Surrey County Council Lib Dems welcome Gatwick decision
Surrey County Council's Liberal Democrats have welcomed the decision by the Liberal Democrat Party Conference in Glasgow to oppose expansion of Gatwick Airport.
Cllr Hazel Watson, the Leader of the Liberal Democrat opposition on Surrey County Council said: "I am delighted at the decision to continue to oppose the expansion of Gatwick. Surrey residents are constantly telling me how the impact on Surrey's natural environment as well as increased noise, traffic, building and parking problems are a massive concern to them, and therefore how strongly they are opposed to any expansion of Gatwick.
"A possible policy change for the Liberal Democrats to support Gatwick expansion was defeated by a comfortable margin, and I am delighted that this has confirmed that opposing the expansion of Gatwick will definitely go into the Liberal Democrats national General Election manifesto."
