Progress report refused

11 Aug 2010

In July 2009 the County Council's Interim Chief Executive Mr Michael Frater published a highly critical report about the County Council. At that time the Conservative administration said that Mr Frater would be invited to review the Council's progress one year following the publication of his report.

The proposed review was welcomed by many Surrey residents.

However, one year later, the Liberal Democrats have asked the Conservative administration when Mr Frater will be returning to carry out his review. In response, the Conservative Cabinet has refused to agree to Mr Frater's review being carried out.

The Liberal Democrats believe that this response is unacceptable as we want the County Council to be subject to an independent review of its performance.
