Onslow residents to get improved crossing facilities on The Chase
Lib Dem County Councillor Angela Goodwin is delighted that a road safety scheme on The Chase in Onslow, that she has long been lobbying for on behalf of residents, has now received the go-ahead from Surrey County Council for implementation in 2023/24. Although the details are yet to be confirmed, solutions being looked at are the installation of a zebra crossing that links Benbrick Road to Elmside on The Chase and the possible closure of the northern slip into St John's Road.
The aim of the scheme is to improve crossing facilities in particular for pupils walking to, or being dropped off and picked up from Queen Eleanor's School; the zebra crossing would also help those using pushchairs or mobility scooters.
Angela explained:
" I am very pleased that the scheme is to be prioritised to receive capital funding, scoring well against the criteria of Congestion, Accessibility, Safety, Environment, and Affordability & Deliverability. This has been a positive collaborative effort between residents, Surrey Highways and SCC's School Road Safety Team and will make crossing this very busy road safer for pedestrians, especially families and children who walk to / from their local schools."
