Lib Dems in Caterham launch petition about local recycling centres

23 Jul 2021

The local Lib Dems created a petition calling on Surrey County Council to increase the opening times and allow pedestrian access at the Community Recycling Centres in Caterham and Warlingham.

Lib Dem County Councillor for Caterham Valley, Jeffrey Gray, said:

"Local residents have become increasingly frustrated by the long queues outside the recycling centres on Bond Road in Warlingham and Chaldon Road in Caterham. The local tips' opening hours have been cut back so that when they are open, the demand is greater than ever, causing congestion in local roads."

"Surrey County Council have also stopped people who live nearby from walking in their rubbish as they have been able to do in the past. The recent proposals to close the site to traffic to provide very limited walk-in windows are totally inadequate and will just add to the chaos and confusion."

"Apart from the disruptive effect on our road network, ongoing restrictions in the use of our recycling centres increase the likelihood of fly tipping and illegal bonfires."

"That is why my Lib Dem colleagues and I have launched a petition urging the County Council to open our local tips more and allow pedestrians access. Please sign the petition here."
