Lib Dems call for cross-party campaign on funding

29 Nov 2005

County Councillor Hazel Watson, leader of the Lib Dem group, criticised the Conservative administration on Surrey County Council for not pursuing a cross party approach to increasing government funding for the County Council.

Hazel Watson said, "The Local Government Association has launched a campaign with all-party support to try to increase the central government grant for local government by £2.2billion. However, the Conservative administration of Surrey County Council seems to have rejected an all-party approach in favour of a unilateral campaign with the same aim in mind."

"The unilateral action of Surrey Conservatives will not help Surrey's residents get lower Council Tax bills. Only an all party coalition has any chance of success", she concluded.
