First meeting of new Council.

25 May 2005

The new enlarged Surrey County Council (now with 80 members) met formally for the first time on 24th May. A new chair (David Davis) and vice-chair (Angela Fraser) were elected. The previous leader Nick Skellett was re-elected and announced his new cabinet, including three new faces.

Lib Dem deputy leader Ian Beardsmore had the honour of formally seconding Mr Davis, with whom he has worked on the Planning Committee of the South East Regional Assembly.

Chairs and members were appointed to the council's various Select Committees and its other committees, including Health Scrutiny and Planning & Regulatory. County representatives were also appointed to the Surrey Police Authority and chairs were also agreed for the eleven Local Committees.

Lib Dem group leader Hazel Watson was appointed chair of the Adults and Community Care Select Committee. For the other committee responsibilities of Liberal Democrat councillors go to "Get to know us" or see the link below.
