Extra funding for electric vehicle charging points in Surrey

31 Jul 2013

The Coalition Government has today [31 July] announced additional funding for electric vehicle charging points, including £58,860 for Surrey County Council.

The Government has made an extra £37m available to help offset the costs of installing the charging points. Local authorities, train operators and NHS trusts are among the groups set to benefit from the funding announcement by Liberal Democrat Transport Minister Norman Baker.

Commenting, Cllr Stephen Cooksey, the Liberal Democrat Environment and Transportation Spokesperson on Surrey County Council said:

"The automotive industry is a true British success story and the Government is committed to helping them grow even further. This investment in extra charging points will not only provide a boost to the automotive sector, but also protect our environment from damaging emissions.

"This extra investment means that people can switch to electric vehicles safe in the knowledge that there are lots of charging points available to them in car parks, train stations and on streets across the country."
