Dilnot Report - Surrey Lib Dems welcome second victory in a day

Liberal Democrats on Surrey County Council are celebrating a second unanimous vote by Surrey County Council in support of a Liberal Democrat initiative in the Council Chamber.

Liberal Democrat county councillor Fiona White asked the Council to call on the Government to bring forward legislation supporting the Dilnot Report on Funding of Care and Support.

Fiona White said: "For decades ministers from all three main political parties have said that the elderly should not have to sell their homes to pay for care. Successive governments have dragged their feet and failed to take action.

"This vote, on a Liberal Democrat proposal, will ensure that Liberal Democrat and Conservative Surrey county councillors can bring presssure on government ministers to take action and prevent further hardship for the increasingly ageing population of Surrey.
