Cost of residents’ parking permits set to rise

Surrey County Council has launched a public consultation on increases to on-street parking charges including those for residents' parking permits, with the aim of increasing parking revenue by £334,000 per year across the range of measures.

Notably the cost of parking permits is set to rise over 60% for the first vehicle in a household, increasing from £50 to £80. Additional household permits will go up from £75 to £100 for the second permit and to £130 for subsequent ones.

These changes were initially proposed back in January 2020 but were postponed due to the pandemic.

Will Forster, Group Leader of Surrey Lib Dems said "Introducing substantially higher parking permit costs at this time is only going to add to the acute pressure on household finances already being felt by Surrey residents. I would encourage everyone affected by these changes, to make their views known through the consultation. Many families will already be not just feeling the pinch but suffering genuine hardship at this time and it doesn't seem right that the County Council is adding even more to that financial burden."
