Airport Plan: Head spinning absurdity
Lifelong local resident and Spelthorne's Borough's longest serving councillor Ian Beardsmore (Lib Dem Sunbury Common & Ashford Common) has launched a biting attack on the proposal by Spelthorne's Conservative MP Kwasi Kwartang to knock down thousands of homes in and around Spelthorne Borough to make way for further expansion of Heathrow Airport.
He said: "Now the MP is showing a his true colours as an outsider, who understands little, and cares even less about the community he is meant to represent."
In a statement to Surrey County Council this morning (Tuesday 17th July) he described the proposal as "An absurdity that left his head spinning" accusing the MP of making a "Smash and Grab Raid on the future" by "putting short term expediency over long term need."
He described the environmental cost as unacceptable and an attack on the concept of Green belt itself.
He was also very critical of the housing implication in an area where there is already an acute shortage of housing, wondering where all the homeless, and extra workers would be housed.
He described the housing implications as a "... a double whammy of complete insanity" by "cutting supply and increasing demand of an already stressed resource".
