George Potter
Divisional Member for Guildford East (Burpham and Merrow)
George Potter has been the divisional member for county councillor for Guildford East (Burpham and Merrow) since May 2021 and sits on the Surrey Pension Fund Committee.
A University of Surrey graduate who has lived in Guildford since 2009, George works as a software developer as his day job. He is active in the community and led the campaign against the closure of Boxgrove Sure Start children's centre.
George is also a Guildford Borough Councillor for Burpham ward, where he lives. He was elected to Guildford Borough Council in May 2019, where he spearheaded the successful push to get the council to declare a climate emergency and to commit to a goal of becoming a carbon neutral borough by 2030, and where he has a particular focus on housing issues. He was re-elected in May 2023 and now serves as the Lead Councillor for Planning, Environment and Climate Change.
George is working hard to help residents and is determined to stand up for local people, saying: "I want to see the return of neighbourhood policing; real action on traffic problems, plus proper road and pavement repairs; and a council that listens to and supports communities rather than ignoring them."
