Eddie Owen, Guildford East
Eddie Owen was elected as County Councillor for Guildford East in May 2005. Eddie's main interests are education and the community, especially facilities for young people and the protection of the green belt. He is also interested in highways and recycling. As a County Councillor, Eddie Owen has the following roles:
Eddie Owen has been actively involved with his local schools for many years, initially with their PTA's and latterly as a school governor. He was previously involved with Bushy Hill primary school and is currently a Governor at George Abbot and Carwarden House community schools and Burpham primary school. He is qualified as an advanced skills governor and is a member of the Schools' Group on the Surrey Schools Organisation Committee. Eddie has also been an active member of the Surrey Governors' Association's Executive and represented Surrey Governors on the RASSG (Raising Achievement in Surrey Schools Group) and on the Steering Group for the EDP (Education Development Plan). Eddie is a Trustee Director of the Guildford Association of Voluntary Service. He is an active member of the Burpham Community Association and their representative on the East Guildford Residents Association. Eddie lives in Burpham with his wife Joan. Three of their four children have now moved back to Guildford and their youngest is at Liverpool University. Eddie and Joan have one grandchild, two cats and a guinea pig!
