Chris Slyfield, County Councillor for Godalming North

Chris Slyfield has been County Councillor for Godalming North since May 2001. Chris was born in Guildford in 1944, educated at Farnham Grammar School and is married with one son. He is a Chartered Accountant by profession and moved to Godalming in 1967.

As a County Councillor, Chris Slyfield has the following roles:

  • Vice-chair of SCC's Corporate Management Select Committee;

  • Member of SCC's Audit and Governance Committee;

  • Member of SCC's Standards Committee;

  • Member of SCC's Local Committee in Waverley;

  • Member of the Surrey Police Authority.

Chris Slyfield was elected to Godalming Town Council in 1990 and to Waverley Borough Council in 1995. He was Mayor of Godalming in 1996/97 and Deputy Mayor of Waverley in 1998/99.

Chris is a former Leader of Waverley Borough Council. He is particularly interested in the problems of small business and youth in Waverley. He has been Chairman of the Godalming Initiative since its formation in 1996 and was heavily involved in the successful Pedestrian Priority scheme for Godalming High Street.

His main hobby is Classic Car rallies and shows, raising funds for charity whenever possible. He is involved with the formation of a youth Motor Education project to combat vehicle crime.
