At their recent Party Congress in Palermo, Italy, European Liberals Focus Year on the EU Budget came to a close of 1 December with interesting and heated discussions on the Theme Resolution "A Budget for Europe: Liberal Priorities for the EU Budget 2014-2020".
Thanks to the good drafting by Danish and Finnish Liberal MEPs Anne Jensen and Carl Haglund, the agreed proposals in the final Theme Resolution will ensure that Europe gets back to winning ways and prosperity again.
Among several good measures, European Liberals make a strong case for increased transparency, an end to the rebates, a substantial restructuring of the Common Agricultural Policy and the EU Cohesion Policy and a clear focus on European added value in whatever measures the EU undertakes.
They also adamantly rejected the Socialist Financial Transaction Tax, which would only result in making Europe less attractive for global companies, which we dearly need in these times of crisis.
